On Friday May 11th A.T. STEWART MIDDLE SCHOOL gymnasium was transformed into a beautiful banquet hall to celebrate all the Stewart athletes. It was a packed house full of supportive parents and faculty. The Speaker of the hour was the Dallas Cowboys very own Teddy Williams. The banquet was a total success! Athletes were awarded and parents were proud !
The campus tour ended the day with the fifth graders wanting more. The highlight of the day was the video showcasing the wonder of Stewart. The counselor from Dixie said it best when she said, "A.T. Stewart is the best kept secret in all of Tyler but not anymore. I'm telling everybody about this school".
It is that time of year again, time for the 3rd annual 8th grade A. T. Stewart Gopher Boxcar Derby. The Derby is designed to help students hone critical math and science skills. On Wednesday, May 23rd from 5:30-6:30 Stewart Middle School will host a car show for the parents of all 8th grade students.
Parents can come and see the cars their students have worked so hard on. Finally, on Wednesday May 30, 2012 we will have the judging, boxcar derby, and demolition derby. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend the derby as well.

A.T. Stewart's championship winning Athletics Department honored the people who have helped them achieve winning seasons in almost every sport all year. A breakfast was held for the teachers and staff who supported the students.
Coach Balcorta said, "Thank you for coming out to our games to support us with your rooting and applause. We know we could not have had the success we enjoyed this year without the help from the teachers, office staff, tutors, janitorial staff, lunch room staff for providing lunch and breakfast for the athletes and the administration. The Stewart Faculty is Family."
Special thanks were also sent out to Mrs. Weaver, Mrs. Hitchcock, Mrs. Bowdre and Coach Johnson for putting the breakfast together. If you'd like to see pictures from the event please click here, or on the picture.
The theme this year was Imagine, Explore and Discover. As part of the celebration, each grade level dived into one of the theme words for this year's celebration. Sixth grade imagined, by creating posters of their future careers, what schools of the future would be like, or a city of the future. Seventh grade explored different facets of education while eighth graders discovered.
Congratulations to all the students for having such great projects and for all your hard work.
Between the flips, tumbles and moves being delivered to the students, the dancers also spoke about the history of the dances.
It all culminated in a dance off between two groups of students and teachers. The pictures found in our slideshow gallery of this event were provided by students Gissell Carreno and Zayra Ruiz from the TV/News Production ACE class.
During February, students involved in the TV News program designed their own class lesson and became the teachers. The sixth grade students shared what they have learned with seventh grade students being recruited for the program. If you would like to see pictures from this lesson, click here.
Other classes include Cooking, Robotics and so much more. If you are interested in joining an ACE class please see stop by the ACE office.

Mary McGough-Skinner is A. T. Stewart's Teacher of the Year. Congratulations!
"I have been a math teacher for 6 years, at Stewart for 4 years, math department head for 3 years, and a math geek all my life. While here at Stewart our math department and our students have worked very hard and rose from not meeting AYP to being a Recognized campus in math. I have been awarded grants from the Tyler ISD Foundation for our Annual Box car derby which gained city-wide recognition last year for our students. The Tyler ISD Foundation was so impressed with the students’ efforts that I was asked to be keynote speaker at their fundraising kick-off luncheon last fall. I was awarded the Tyler ISD teacher of the month last year and have been a mentor for the UT Tyler beginning teacher program for the past 3 years."
